Menu for week of February 8 – February 13, 2021

Happy Valentine’s Week! To celebrate, Fresh Market Kitchen will be cooking some of our favourite and most loved dishes this week. We have a very special treat for lunch this Thursday….our housemade, completely from scratch, pastrami will be our lunch feature Thursday. We have a very, very limited quantity, so please preorder early to avoid disappointment. We also have a very special supper planned for pickup from our kitchen this Saturday, February 13th for Valentine’s Day and still do have availability. Reserve yours online! We will be accepting pickups until 7 PM Saturday, February 13th.

We hope you have had a chance to try out the new website reservation system. From the comfort and safety of your own home, you are able to browse our in-stock items and easily and quickly reserve what you would like to order and arrange the date and time for pickup from our kitchen (inside or curbside!). Thursday, Feb. 11, 2021:
Lunch Soup & Sandwich (11:00 AM – 2 PM)

Sandwich: House pastrami on rye.

Our pastrami process is a three-week process and created completely in-house. We first cure the beef for two weeks in our special curing brine. Next comes the pan-toasted hand-ground spices that are rubbed on the entire surface of the meat. It is then ready for Caveman to take over and slow smoke it in Cinderella (our flagship smoker) for 12-18 hours. We slice it thin, pile it atop a light rye bread, top with sauerkraut and Gruyere cheese and a gentle kiss of Dijon mustard. Served with half of one of our delicious garlic dill pickles. $10.00

Stuffed Sweet Bell Peppers:

Ontario Beef stuffed sweet bell peppers with homemade tomato basil sauce (GF) and a sprinkle of parmesan cheese. There is nothing simple to this classic comfort dish! We only use Arborio rice in our stuffed peppers and all Ontario beef! This week, our sauce is made with San Marzano tomatoes and fresh basil!! This dish freezes and reheats beautifully.

Menu for week of January 25 – 30, 2021

This week, we are focusing on pickling this week – cauliflower, beets, red onion and jalapenos and jarring more of our delicious gluten-free Midget BBQ sauce and, as such, there will not be a live hot cook Wednesday, Thursday or Friday evening this week.  We will be taking reservations for the lunch meal Thursday and Friday to be picked up for your supper those evenings.  We also have many delicious fully cooked meals in the freezer.

Smoke Shack Ribs & Wings Night “Cinderella & Prince Charming Date Night” – Available for pickup beginning at 4:00 PM.
Our lead smoker, Cinderella, has a new beau (Prince Charming AKA Rudy).  In honour of their first cooking session together, Chef Casey and Caveman will be cooking up real cherry wood-smoked chicken wings and pork ribs.  Chef Casey has also created a new chicken wing BBQ sauce for the occasion, and you will have a choice between two BBQ sauces for the wings (“Midget” or “Under Duress”).  Ribs will be dressed in our famous Midget BBQ sauce.  Prices are as follow:
Double Date:  Half-Rack Ribs & Half-Pound Wings $30.00 – A half-rack of smoked and “Midget” BBQ-sauced ribs, half a pound of smoked chicken wings (in your choice of “Midget or “Under Duress” bbq sauce) and includes crudité of fresh celery and carrots, housemade Blue Cheese dip, 2 dinner rolls and your choice of either small apple and fennel cabbage coleslaw (creamy dressing) or small housemade pork & beans.  Please let us know at the time of order if you would prefer our famous “Midget” BBQ sauce on your wings or if you would prefer to try the new housemade “Under Duress” BBQ sauce (less spicy and more of a vinegar-based bbq sauce as opposed to tomato-based like our Midget sauce).

Menu for week of December 14 – December 19

I begin this week’s menu email with a full heart – we have filled the laundry basket for a SECOND time and will keep collecting until Christmas Eve in support of Selkirk Christian Chapel’s Winter Clothing Drive for those facing homelessness.  The second basket of donations was picked up this week and hand distributed, once again, to those in need.  You have all been so generous and thoughtful – THANK YOU!

Again, thank you for helping us fill a trailer full of recyclables in support of the Norfolk Shriners Club and the Shriners Hospital of Montreal.  The Shriners have picked one load of donations thus far and brought us another empty trailer, so please consider bringing your aluminum pop cans, beer cans, metal cans, glass and plastic beer, liquor and wine bottles (please no water bottles, detergent bottles, lube oil bottles or household & other garbage).  There are bins in the trailer that you can take to your house to fill and bring back to the trailer.

There is still the opportunity to pre-order Fresh Market Kitchen’s Christmas Charcuterie – an assortment of chef-selected locally cured quality meats and cheese with our very own housemade pickles and jam (2-3 servings/box) $35 + HST per box (does not contain crackers/bread). We are getting down to the last few that will be made available.  Email casey@freshmarketkitchen.ca to reserve one!

We are still taking orders for Fresh Market Kitchen’s “Decorate at Home Gingerbread Chalet” for pick up the week of December 14-19 and 21-24.  Our French pastry chef and his elves have been busy baking, creating Decorate at Home Gingerbread Chalets – no preservatives or artificial ingredients – it’s gingerbread you’ll actually want to eat!! Each Chalet comes with professionally-made icing and the candies to decorate.  We love receiving the photos you have been sending us of your children and grandchildren putting them together, decorating them and creating memories to last a lifetime.  Have a look at how our Local Artisan Elaine’s turned out!  Easy to put together, tasty icing and plenty of candies and pretzels to adorn your masterpiece.  $22/kit + HST.  Email casey@freshmarketkitchen.ca to reserve one!

This week, we will only be offering lunch Thursday and Friday and our Brunch on Saturday in an effort to do all of the necessary prep for the Christmas Feasts, Charcuterie and Gift Baskets.  We will, however, have soups, quiches and extra lunches available so that you could arrange to pick up our featured lunch meal for supper (you would just reheat your soup at home J).  The week of Christmas (December 21st) there WILL NOT BE LUNCH OR SUPPER AVAILABLE, but we will be open for last-minute shopping and purchase of our soups, ice cream and pickles to hold you over until we are back in the New Year.  We close Christmas Eve at 4:30 PM and will be back, ready to cook again, January 11, 2021.

As you now know, Fresh Market Kitchen’s Local Artisan Market has had a different featured Artisan every Friday and Saturday starting back in November, and this is the final weekend!  We thank you for shopping and supporting our Local Artisan Market.  You are supporting so many talented locals from the Selkirk and Haldimand County area!

The holiday season is quickly approaching, and with your help, we have been able to stuff an entire laundry basket FULL of new hats, mittens and socks in support of Selkirk Christian Chapel’s Winter Clothing Drive for those facing homelessness (we were even gifted some sleeping bags)!  These donations were picked up Friday evening and hand distributed to those in need yesterday.  Don’t worry if you hadn’t had a chance yet to bring down a pair or two of socks…we have put the basket inside our front door again for this week, so there is still time to help.  Thank you!

Menu for week of November 30 – December 5


This is a bit of a longer read this week, so grab yourself a comfy seat and settle in for a bit of a read (or just scroll down to the juicy details of what we are cooking from scratch for you this week!)

We are beginning this new week and a new month this Tuesday, and we would like to take a quick moment to thank you for helping us support local! Local staff, local farmers, local artisans and crafters and local charities…these are all great things happening at Fresh Market Kitchen.  We have placed a collection basket just inside our front door for anyone that would like to help us support Selkirk Christian Chapel’s Winter Clothing Drive for the homeless this season.  We are collecting new socks and mittens in our kitchen.  Please consider donating an item or two to help keep someone a little bit warmer this winter season. 


The recycling program in support of the Norfolk Shriners Club and the Shriners Hospital of Montreal is still going on, and we thank you for your donations thus far.  If you haven’t had a chance to donate any cans and recyclable bottles, there is still a bit of time.  The Shriners Hospitals for Children has a mission to provide the highest quality care to children with neuromusculoskeletal conditions, burn injuries and other special healthcare needs within a compassionate, family-centered and collaborative care environment, provide for the education of physicians and other healthcare professionals and conduct research to discover new knowledge that improves the quality of care and quality of life of children and families.  Their mission is carried out without regard to race, colour, creed, sex or sect, disability, national origin, or ability of a patient or family to pay.  The link to the hospital’s website is https://www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org/montreal.  Thank you for your support of this worthy cause!
 
Don’t forget to take advantage of the pre-order opportunity to enjoy your Fresh Market Kitchen Family Style with Style Christmas Feast.  We will be closing off orders earlier than the originally anticipated cut-off date of December 17th due to the overwhelming positive response to our Christmas menu. 


 
We have been asked by a few if we will be selling Decorate at Home Christmas Cookies.  We are working closely with our French pastry chef to create a Decorate at Home Gingerbread Chalet – no preservatives or artificial ingredients – gingerbread you’ll actually want to eat!! (details to come very soon!)
 
With all of that said, I would like to let you know that we, at Fresh Market Kitchen, will be taking advantage of some much needed down time between Christmas and the New Year.  As you may know, we opened the doors to Fresh Market Kitchen at the very beginning of the pandemic and we have been working every moment since that time as an essential business.  In an effort to allow ourselves, our families and our amazing staff some time to unwind, we will be closing Christmas Eve, December 24, 2020, at 4:30 pm and reopening rejuvenated and rested on Monday, January 11, 2021, so stock your freezer with our from-scratch frozen soups and other delicious meals to see you through until we return ready to cook!  All of us at Fresh Market Kitchen continue to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for welcoming us so warmly into your family, day in and day out, every week.  We look forward to starting a new year in 2021, continuing our mission of making nutritional meals that take you back to a simpler time, when a plate of food would draw the family together and memories were made, always striving to source local first, ensuring the finest quality ingredients.  Family Style With Style is how we roll!!!

This Friday, December 4 from 1-4 pm, Fresh Market Kitchen’s Local Artisan Market is pleased to present Megan Nelson.  Megan makes gorgeous macramé plant hangers and has an amazing sense of humour, wanting you to know that, “each plant hanger has been crafted with naturally sourced elk’s hair. Being hand woven, they are infused with the highest amount of creative passion one can give. Accented with hand-carved wooden beads and coloured with the rarest pigments known to man, all of which can only be found in the highest peaks of the mountains. Those summits are where I discovered the materials as a young girl while on a year-long excursion to discover myself…No seriously though, I am a stay at home mom, and I’ve never adventured any further than the local craft shop.  I make what I love, and hope you love it too.”  LOL.  You must come meet Megan Friday!



On Saturday, December 5th from 12-4 pm, Susan Cuming of Selkirk will be with us.  If you don’t already know Susan, here is a bit about this amazing woman and her obvious passion for beach glass and jewelry … “Susan Cuming here! I have lived in Selkirk for 30+ years and in the village itself since 2003. I work full-time as an educator for the Alzheimer Society, I am a community volunteer and owner of Back in Play (Health & Wellness, EST 2016). I love walking the beaches of Selkirk and picking up beach glass as I go. They looked great in the big bowl on the bureau, but some of them were calling to shine!  I was already tumbling and creating Auralite 23 wired wrapped jewelry, and my husband suggested creating our own “beach glass” from coloured glass items we could purchase at garage sales or thrift stores.  Drop by and view some of the newer pieces I’ve created.  I’ll have my tumbler on hand and can show you the process. Perhaps you would like to create your own piece of Beach Glass jewelry? Maybe an Auralite 23 crystal will call to you?  Hope to see you out!”

Wednesday, December 2, 2020:  No hot, live-cooked supper tonight.  Our freezer meals, soups, chili, homemade ice cream and cheesecake in a jar will be available for pickup from 11 am – 6 pm.  The Local Artisan Market is also open to shop for all of your locally-made handcrafted gifts!
